Governor Brad Little has again declared July as Idaho Beef Month, making this year the 22nd annual celebration of the beef industry. What better time to celebrate – considering the abundance of barbeques, hamburgers, cookouts, and other delicious festivities July brings?
While many consumers across the country may primarily associate Idaho with its famous potatoes, the ranchers are familiar with another crucial agricultural product: beef. Considering Idaho’s cattle outnumber the people, it’s no surprise that the Idaho Beef Industry considerably influences local communities and the state’s economy.
Idaho Beef Facts
Idaho is home to an impressive 2.55 million cattle, with a total value of $2.81 billion. This ranks Idaho 13th in the nation overall, with more than 7,500 cattle operations – most of which are family owned. Idaho also has two of the ten feeding operations in the U.S. and is home to three of the top fifteen seedstock operations in the U.S.
