Valley Wide Cooperative Donates to Mario's Miles of Smiles Suicide Prevention

Wendell, Idaho – Valley Wide Cooperative and Valley Agronomics LLC donated a Traeger Grill and a bag of pellets totaling an amount of $810 to the Mario’s Miles of Smiles Suicide Prevention Auction. The money that is raised will go towards the training and resources to educate youth about suicide prevention. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people who live in Idaho between the ages of 15-34 and for boys 10-14. In 2014, there were 320 people who committed suicide in the state of Idaho with a 9.8% increase in 2015, making Idaho the 9th highest suicide rate in the nation. The event Mario’s Miles of Smiles Suicide Prevention, has been put in place due to the suicide program Natural Helpers being cut from schools. The program is named after a youth that committed suicide last July, and the goal is to provide help to youth who struggle with depression, or anxiety, and don’t understand how to cope with it. “This event will help us cause an awareness to the public, to parents, and to the youth. Youth suicide is becoming worse and worse, and it is our responsibility to educate people about the importance that life is never so bad that you need to take your life. Youth need to know there is hope and that they do not have to feel like they are no longer worthy to live. We want to provide that help for people who are struggling with this issue” stated Jack Verbree, a local business owner of the Wendell area. Valley Wide Cooperative understands the importance of educating the youth and parents about suicide prevention and wants to help spread the importance of life.
