Future Plans:
I hope to become a diesel mechanic for RDO equipment. I plan to take this course in Walla Walla. Then be one of their technicians and work on customers’ John Deere equipment such as tractors and combines. After so many years after my dad retires I plan to take over the farm. This diesel Mechanic course will teach me everything about tractors and equipment which will give me skills to live on the farm and fix my own equipment to save money. Also I hope to buy one of their RDO service trucks to start my own business helping other farmers in the area. 

Awards:
I have no received any awards from 4-H, but I have participated in FFA. I went to an Ag Show in Spokane Washington and listened to the officers talk about what’s it like being a president for FFA. Also Activities I’ve been a part of. I have been apart of CBTech since my Junior year. CBTech is a technical school for the trades.  Last year I took an Engineering class. I learned about 3-D printing and small motors. This year I am in an automotive class. I learned about cars and trucks, and how they work. Everything about them brakes, engine work, maintenance, transmissions and even electrical. I have been a student of the quarter for both Engineering and automotive classes. If I’m not in school I am working on the family farm, I have lived on a farm my entire life. My experiences are driving tractors and combines. I have experience with maintenance and fixing equipment. I can weld, I help my aunt with cows. Such as fixing fences, sorting cows, calving, and branding. I can maintain cars and trucks. Also I can fix them like motor work, bearing work and electrical. For example finding draws in power or giving seats or lights power. I have experience rotating, changing and balancing tires. 

Leadership:
As a leader my freshman year I organised a pie fundraiser for my class. I planned when we were going to do it, I got a hold of Jacks Resort who makes the pies. I figured out a spreadsheet of the types of pies and how much they cost. I printed them out. I then got a hold of my classmates and put them in line to go and see people like friends and family in the community who would like to buy pies. After so many days I got back all the spreadsheets from my classmates and gave them to the gals at Jacks resort and they made them. After they were ready, the class got together to hand them out to all the orders. We made almost $3,000, all together and sold about 300 pies. .
Also I did a fundraiser at a fun run in Almira last year doing a side by side wash. I figured out what day the poker run was. I spoke to Nutrient to see if I could use their area for water and space in Almira. I gathered a couple friends that wanted to make a couple bucks. We brought pressure washers. Between the three of us we had two pressure washers and the other gathered all the money. The side by side would pull up, park. We would wash all the dirty ditch off their side by sides  they can have a clean razor for their ride home. .
Extracurricular programs that I have done are when I was a student of the quarter at CBTech in Moses lake last year. I was a part of Varsity Football all four years of my High School career. I was on Varsity Basketball for two years, also I was on Varsity golf my sophomore year. I have always been an honor roll student. 

Essay Question 1:
In my opinion the most challenging issue that my home town and the country faces is how much it costs to live. It has been getting more and more expensive to live. For example gas prices, groceries, housing. Just plain ole trying to make a future is exhausting and very expensive. In my hometown it’s worse because there are so many fewer job openings. Unless you moved here for a job opportunity or even just to stay afloat financially it is hard.   

Essay Question 2:
People that influence me the most are for sure my dad. I am exactly like him. I work with him on the farm and he teaches me all the skills I know. He gives me pointers on how to do better or how to be just a little bit more perfect. I think exactly like him, he and I like to think ahead a lot. For example if someone were to tell me something to do, while they are still talking about it I’m already thinking 3 steps ahead of how it’s supposed to work, or how it goes together. He is a great person and I want to be like him one day.  

Essay Question 3:
My parents’ involvement in Valley Wide is that my family are farmers. We are dry land farmers. We farm wheat and canola, the farm buys a lot of our tools, equipment, chemicals from Valley Wide. Now that we have been all No Till. We spray more than anything and Valley Wide helps us with that. Every year we also rent a Valley Wides fertilizer machine so we can fertilize our land before we start seeding. Valley Wide is a huge corporation where we live and it helps lots of other farmers around our farm. It helps our farm a lot.

Future Plans:
Ever since I was a young child, I knew that I wanted to farm. Over the past few years, I have taken on a more active role on my family’s fourth-generation dryland wheat farm, performing mechanical work, tilling fields, and operating a combine. Upon graduation from Dordt University, I plan to return home to the family farm and partner with my uncle. As I was evaluating my post-high school plans, we discussed the skills I could gain to bring back to the farm and help it continue for many generations. Initially, I considered trade school to learn mechanical skills, but my uncle is a master John Deere mechanic who can teach me those skills. Although our farm has been successful, neither my grandfather nor my uncle has formal training in agriculture or business. As a result, we identified a need for formal training in agriculture or agribusiness. As a result, I have elected to major in agriculture or agribusiness. As economic pressure on agriculture continues to grow, farmers must understand the business of agriculture. By majoring in agribusiness, I will gain a well-rounded, hands-on, and solid understanding of agriculture, chemistry, business administration, and economics, enabling me to partner with my uncle to manage our farm effectively for generations.

I attend a very small school (graduating class of 3) and so I have not had the opportunity to participate in FFA. I also did not have the opportunity to participate in 4-H growing up.

Essay Question 1:
The biggest problem facing my community is that the value of small-town and rural life, especially agriculture, is often dismissed by urban residents and policymakers. Rural life is significantly different from urban life, and in some cases, rural and urban dwellers enjoy different things.  A significant part of small-town life is agriculture, and without agriculture, the world would go hungry. Often, people in cities do not understand the immense amount of work required to bring food from the field to the table. In today’s political environment, legislation is passed that makes the lives of farmers much harder, makes agriculture less economically viable, and prevents farmers from living their way of life. In some cases, proposed laws threaten core farming practices, such as those in Oregon targeting animal agriculture. If this law were to be passed, a rancher’s way of life would become criminal. As a result of these challenges, the land and number of farms in use continue to decline. The Farm Bureau reported in 2024 that between 2017 and 2022, the number of farms declined by 141,733, and the acres farmed declined by 20.1 million.    

Essay Question 2:
My parents, grandparents, and Uncle Nate have been the most influential people in my life. As I have grown, my parents have given me the opportunity to attend New Life Christian School and receive an excellent, Christ-centered education. My education has given me knowledge and taught me how to learn, a skill I will use throughout my life. Additionally, my parents have emphasized the importance of doing my best work the first time. I have a very close relationship with my grandparents. My grandpa and I have spent countless hours together in the field; we have had many conversations about hard work, what it takes to be a farmer, and the Bible, which have shaped who I’m becoming. My grandma always cares for me and, more importantly, invites me to help around the house, giving me valuable skills for the future.   My uncle Nate has shown me how to work on equipment and exemplifies hard work. Through helping him prepare the combines for harvest, I have learned the importance of patience and attention to detail. These lessons have helped me develop problem-solving skills, which I continue to use to fix things around the farm and our home.  

Essay Question 3:
My family was an Ag Link customer before Ag Link’s merger with Valley Wide Cooperative. Our first experience was with Ag Link when we were unable to get fertilizer from our previous supplier because they had run out of product, leaving us in a bind. We found Ag Link and, now, Valley Wide Cooperative to offer fair prices and excellent service from Dale Clark and his crew. We have been loyal customers of chemicals, fertilizer, and fuel ever since. Over the past 10 years, I have personally attended grower meetings with my grandfather and uncle and have enjoyed the educational opportunities offered at these gatherings. Additionally, my uncle had the opportunity to travel to the Midwest and attend a young/future leaders conference.

Agriculture Technology with an emphasis in Farm Operations & Management 

Future Plans:
When I was six years old, I remember coming home from the last day of 1st grade. I was sitting around the table with my family at lunch when my grandpa asked when I was going to start driving a tractor to feed baby calves. I said, “Well, I guess today.” After lunch that day, my uncle showed me how to drive the tractor. When I first took off, I did not go more than ten feet before the tractor turned off because I did not weigh enough. That day, the mechanics deleted the sensor on all the tractors so I could drive them. The next day, I was driving a tractor up and down the rows giving baby calves milk.  After a few weeks, the guys said that I could back the trailers up better than any of the other guys. Over the years I have worked my way up the ladder so that now I can run almost any piece of equipment on our farm. I regularly work on the farm after school late at night, getting the field ready for planting and planting cover crops for feed. I have grown to love farm life and want to be the next generation to take over the family farm. I want to be a good farm manager and smart in agriculture, which has led me to choose a major in Ag so that one day I may return to the farm wiser and smarter.

Essay Question 1:
One of the major problems in the agriculture industry today is the growing disconnect between the public and the source of their food. The public knows nothing about where their food comes from. Much of what they see on social media is full of misconceptions of the agriculture industry. This disconnect can lead to misunderstanding about animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and modern farming practices. Through my work in agriculture technology in college, I hope to help close this gap and become a voice that connects consumers with the truth about agriculture. 
One of the biggest reasons for this disconnect is that many people have moved from rural areas to urban areas. A century ago, most families were involved in agriculture one way or another. But now, only around 2% of Americans are involved in agriculture. Now many people just see the food on the store shelves without considering where their food comes from. 
Another cause is the little time farmers in agriculture have. Farmers work long hours caring for crops and animals, often with little time to explain what they do and why. This silence allows others to come in and start to spread false information. As someone who is interested in agriculture, I see the need for better communication between producers and consumers.
Many people now don’t realize how much technology, science, and work goes into making safe and affordable food. Misconceptions can spread very quickly, especially with the help of social media. Issues that are often misunderstood include animal abuse, crop modification, and environmental practices. Some people will take these misconceptions and use them against farmers to put them out of business.
 

Essay Question 2:
My grandpa has always been someone I look up to.  In 1981 he decided to pursue a better life and opportunity for his life and family.  He packed up his wife who was pregnant and their 2 year old daughter and immigrated to the United States with 5 suitcases and $500. With no papers in hand he didn’t look back.  He worked hard for 2 years and saved every penny so he could join a dairy partnership in Washington.  Since that time he has built up an impressive dairy farm, which has the largest milking herd in the state.  Not only has he  taught me the value of hard work and perseverance, but also the value of money and to earn money you need to put in the long hours to earn that money. I am proud to say I am a descendant of him and hope to carry on his legacy in the future.
I also enjoy listening to his advice. Nearly every morning before school or work, I go to our shop to sit with him and my uncles, listening to them talking about the dairy farm and everyday life. Those conversations have taught me the value of family, and taking pride in what you do.  

Essay Question 3:
My mom’s family operates 6 different farming entities in the Yakima Valley of Washington State.  Each of these entities has an account with Valley Wide.  We purchase many things for each of the farming entities.  We have purchased seed, fertilizer and many other needs for the farm.  I have also purchased feed and items for my 4H and FFA projects that I show at the local fair.

Future Plans:
Choosing this major relates to my future goals because the factors I considered was that I want to work in a career involving computers or technology of some sort. I have built several personal computers for myself and friends, so this was a big factor when deciding. With this degree I can do that and there are a bunch of different jobs I can get with it too.

I have received a greenhand degree from ZIllah FFA. 

Leadership:
I am class president and have been throughout all four years of high school and I participate in weekly meetings. I have volunteered my time distributing food with 2nd Harvest and worked the YoungLife booth at the Central Washington State Fair. Also, I am a member of the national honor society and on track to recieve an honors diploma at graduation. 

Essay Question 1:
I think the most challenging issues our country faces that relates to my hometown of Zillah Washington is inflation and taxes. Inflation hurts the economy by making things more expensive than they are and the fact that farmers don’t make a lot of money that threatens our way of life. Taxes also play into this issue because if we must pay more taxes then we have less money to spend on essentials that are already rising in price due to inflation. Also, because of inflation the cost of labor is insanely high which also takes money out of farmers’ pockets. All of these things amount into one large issue that is currently being faced around my area and that is farmers are barely scraping by or in the negative.  

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my parents. They have always been there for me, whenever I needed help or just to play catch, they were there. They always pushed me to do my best and try my best in anything I did like in sports or school. Their influence has shaped me into who I am today. They have been to every sporting event that I played in to cheer me on and congratulated me no matter how bad or good I did. I don’t know where I would be without them, that is why they are my most influential people. 

Essay Question 3:
My parents are Valley Wide members and have been for around 3 years. They were members when the store closest to me, which was a Bleyhl Co-Op in Zillah WA, got changed into a Valley Wide and have been Valley Wide members ever since. We use Valley Wide for all sorts of needs, that is why we like them so much, they have a little bit of everything. They also buy seed, fertilizer, irrigation supplies, and anything else that is needed on the farm. We get straw for our pigs there and extra random parts that we may need when doing a project. It is nice that Valley Wide is local because it has saved us many long trips to Yakima.

Future Plans:
When considering my future goals, my passion for my faith has always been at the forefront, alongside other interests and educational strengths. These different interests have taken the form of International Business and Trade (something I discovered through my involvement in Future Business Leaders of America), along with a passion for politics. Having considered all of my interests, it was essential to me to choose a university that not only offers a good education but also supports my faith, provides a welcoming environment, and feels like home. For me, this has led to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The moment I stepped on campus during my sophomore year of high school, I knew that Baylor was the right fit for me. It fits all my needs and dreams, but has one major problem: the cost. As a private university, Baylor tuition alone is about $67,000 a year, a cost I will not be able to sustain for four years without scholarships. Currently, I have some money saved for college from raising pigs for 4-H and FFA, working on my family farm during the summer, and helping raise cattle. Still, even with merit scholarships from the university that would reduce costs, without financial assistance, I would have no other choice but to take out loans. .
My goal is to graduate within four years and earn dual degrees in Economics and International Business. I also hope to graduate without debt, as both my parents and my brothers did, so I can enter my career and start a family without worrying about paying off student loans. Scholarships such as the Eric Beck Memorial Scholarship make that possible and help ensure that underrepresented rural kids like me can get a quality education without being bound by their state’s boundaries.

Essay Question 1:
Having grown up in a town of 550 people has taught me many things in life, whether it be how to get along with the same 10 people from Kindergarten to Senior year, or how to care for my neighbors around me who support me in all that I do. This upbringing that I will always be grateful for is in many ways at odds with what the world that we live in today looks like; a world that seems to agree on nearly nothing, and one where compassion seems to be at the back burner of aggression and vitriol. Today, we live in a time where partisan lines are thick and rhetoric as piercing as it ever has been, both of which have threatened our way of life; a dangerous threat to small towns that have been close-knit for generations. Many say that small towns are the backbone of America, a statement that I entirely agree with, mostly because I have seen it. That is why it is so troubling to me and why I think that derision being at the forefront of the American people today is the most challenging issue that our nation faces, because if this vitriol reaches our small towns, then at its heart, America, and the spirit of America, will have been tainted. Though dangerous, I have hope that my generation will be the change and that compassion will be at the forefront of dinner table conversations all around America once again.  

Essay Question 2:
When I think about the most influential people in my life, I look to the people that have simply influenced me through their example, ones that I look up to and want to emulate. One of the first people that comes to mind that fits the bill is my brother, Kameron. Kameron and I have an eight year age gap, so much of my life and memories have been through his high school years up until now. In high school, he always carried himself with discipline in everything that he did, whether it was athletics, academics, leadership, or faith. This diligence provided an example that in my own high school years I have sought to emulate, and I will continue to do my best to emulate his example into college, and hopefully eventually marriage, where he has also continued to lead by example in his own life. It would be disingenuous to ignore where Kameron learned to be a leader; that credit belongs to my parents. My mom and dad have always been the prime example of what hard work looks like, whether it be through my dad on the farm or my mom at school and through her battles with autoimmune issues. For our entire lives my parents have provided me and my brothers with the example of what living a spirit filled life looks like and what it is like to push through challenges, an example that has contributed to my success throughout my activities and my life. W 

Essay Question 3:
My family’s involvement in the Valley Wide Cooperative stems from our fifth generation family farm. Each year, our farm does business with Valley Wide, purchasing fuel, fertilizer, and chemical material while working in close contact with their team of professionals to prepare and harvest each year’s wheat crop. I can think of countless times that I have been with my dad or grandpa where we have had to make a stop at Valley Wide in order to get whatever we may have needed at the time, and ever since a Valley Wide branch has been opened in our community, farmers from across the area often drop in for the same reasons. These resources are vital to the success of our farm and crop each year, making Valley Wide’s presence in our community and surrounding area extremely valuable. Not only is this resource valuable for our farm and farms like ours all across the region, but it is also vital to our agricultural economy as a whole, giving farmers the resources that they need to then produce and sell a crop that will then result in economic growth and prosperity. Being a farmer owned cooperative, Valley Wide’s dividend provides an unmatched support for our regional farmers, and I can personally say for our farm’s daily work. In conversations with my dad, this has been stressed as a huge asset for our farmers, an asset that helps take the everyday burden and stress of farm life a little bit lighter.

Future Plans:
Agricultural Economics aligns with my goals of strengthening local and small farms while gaining hands-on experience. Through my college in the high school courses, such as Political Science, I deep dived into global issues and strengthening markets. This major will allow me to pursue my dream of aiding rural communities, allowing room for agribusiness and/or economics. .
Agricultural economics presents me with the opportunity to improve food systems, water scarcity and droughts, and climate change. I considered the skill sets I have gained, such as Calculus and current world problems skills. These applied skills will allow me to succeed in my research and internships, observing policies, and join the Food and Agriculture Business Club. I hope to make an impact on climate change and implement mitigation tactics for long-term improvements and resilient agriculture systems that benefit all.

Family and Career Leaders of America (FCCLA), helped me learn valuable skills such as networking, public speaking, and professional presentation. Through FCCLA, I held the role of Chapter President and guided my club toward success. I competed at the National level four consecutive times and received numerous awards for my projects, ranging from MyPlate to cyberbullying awareness. FCCLA allowed me to participate in multiple community outreaches, such as Thanksgiving turkey drives and children’s carnivals. .
As a freshman, I was elected ASB Vice President for my grade level, which included fundraising and student leadership. .
Later, I served as secretary of the Environmental Club, focusing on spreading knowledge about agriculture and global warming. I organized multiple community service acts that promoted sustainability, such as homemade paper Valentine cards, bottle cap murals, and sneaker drives. .

Essay Question 1:
After eighteen years of growing up in a small, rural community, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that my agricultural town faces. Economic inequality throughout the agricultural workplace is prevalent, as many small, independent farms often struggle with keeping production and labor afloat. Despite agriculture contributing to the majority of Yakima’s economy, farmers are forced to raise product costs or abandon crops. Between 2017 and 2022, the number of farms in Yakima County dropped 17%. Many farmers work in the scorching sun and cold winters, yet are still overworked and paid unfairly. While Yakima supports over 29,000 jobs and generates $1.16 billions in wages, the hard work ethic behind large farm producers often goes unseen. Many families and individuals rely on farming as their main source of income, yet rural communities’ access to healthcare and higher education is very limited. Young individuals in my community and students at my high school have been pressured to branch out of Yakima to discover higher-paying jobs that entail more opportunities for their future. Agriculture defines the Yakima Valley, but unfortunately, wage inequalities are widespread around the globe. These conditions do not affect just adults, but working teens in the field as well.  Addressing these concerns and publicizing the hard work behind the farming scene can raise awareness and ensure farmers are valued and supported for their contributions to our community and global economy.   

Essay Question 2:
The most influential individuals in my life are my grandfather and my father. Both of their lives reflect their hard-earned success and the grueling work it took them to achieve their goals.  My grandfather, 81 years old, has seen more horrors than I can imagine. After serving in the Vietnam War as a medic with no financial compensation for health damages, he continued his life in pure love. I have never met someone who matches my grandfather’s work ethic, as he works ten hours a day on his 19-acre cattle farm. However, the most endearing quality of my grandfather is his love for family. After working in any weather, my grandfather hugs me tight with a smile on his face. He consistently makes time for me, cooking a homemade dinner with fresh bread. My grandfather has inspired me to work harder than everyone in the room, because I will eventually receive what I deserve. Additionally, my father has taught me selflessness. From a low-income household, my father worked three jobs and managed three restaurants to succeed in college, sleeping in his car. My father built the life he wished he had for my sister and me, sacrificing everything. Today, he wakes up at 3 am, commutes an hour to work, and works long hours. He never misses my sporting or extracurricular events, and I am so grateful for my father and his sacrifices. The everlasting love of these two individuals has made me a well-rounded, loving individual.   

Essay Question 3:
My grandparents have been involved with agriculture my whole life. Since 1970, they have been members of Bleyhl’s and continued to stay members after the shift to Valley Wide Cooperative occurred in 2022. At the height of my grandfather’s cattle ranch, he owned 500 acres of thriving farmland. During this time, my grandfather raised alfalfa, corn, wheat, beans, and more.  Today, my grandfather (81) and grandmother (75) are still heavily rooted in agriculture, and they actively support small farms and communities through volunteer work. My grandfather works 10-hour workdays to tend to his 19 acres of alfalfa and cattle, often before tending to himself. My grandparents’ strong ties to Valley Wide Cooperative have demonstrated a strong dedication to farming communities around the Valley. They have placed farming and family at the center of their lives and represented Valley Wide admirably. Valley Wide Cooperative has supported generations of farmers like my grandparents for decades, reflecting a lifelong commitment to agriculture.

Communications with a minor is social impact / nonprofit 

Future Plans:
Doing my CSI (community service initiative) of embracing dyslexia; advocate for the one in five with dyslexia, has truly created a passion within me to bring the support and advocacy needed for this learning disability. Dyslexia is one of the most study neurodiverse, yet is the one with the least amount of advocacy. Dyslexia effects 20% of the population meaning that 2 kids out of every class will have dyslexia. This is a major percentage, with many going undiagnosed and without support. When choosing a major I knew that I wanted to network with others, create change in the world, and that’s when I learned that I could do a major in communications with a minor in social impact/nonprofit. Starting a nonprofit that is focused on the advocacy on dyslexia and being able to distribute more of my dyslexia reading kits to kids that need them, is what I want to do with my life. By building a communications major I’ll be able to learn the fundamentals of networking; while minoring in social impact/nonprofit will give me the access and resources to create a strong nonprofit that has an impact on others’ lives. 

Leadership:
I was Miss Tri-Cities’ Teen 2025, which is a pageant in the Miss America opportunity. I placed 4th runner up at Miss Washington’s teen. I have been a varsity cheerleader at my high school for four years winning two state championships. I have also participated in track specifically pole vault where it also got a varsity letter and made it to the MCC championships. I had also played tennis for a year at my high school. I started the JustServe Club at my high school where I’ve been president for the past three years. Within this club we do service in our community and what makes it unique compared to other service clubs at the school is that there is no requirement such as grades or service hours required to join, it is open to all students. I have played piano since kindergarten. I have created dyslexia reading kits that have reading tools in them such as a whisper phone and guided reading strip to help support confidence in reading. I have raised over $2000 to supply the cost of these kits and have delivered over 1,500 kits across Washington state. These Reading Kits are in multiple libraries, schools, and boys’ and girls’ clubs. 

Essay Question 1:
In my hometown of Pasco, we are having major growth in population. In fact, my town was named for one of the “Top 10 Boomtowns in America” for 2022. Our town’s population has grown from 32,066 in 2000 to 83,742 in 2026. With this increase in population, former agricultural fields are being turned into housing and commercial zones. The issue that we are facing is that as residential areas continue to expand North and West, replacing the farmland that drives the local economy. This is making it harder for agricultural retail businesses such as Valley Ag to continue in supporting our local farmers as their land is sold for development projects. Not only that but, Pasco’s lands have very nutrient-rich soil because of when the Ice Age Missoula floods came through 18,000 years ago, transforming our soil. The soil we have here is promising and by continuing to transform it into housing is, in my opinion, a major loss. Our county harvests 28,446 acres of potatoes, contributing to Washington’s status as the provider of 23% of all U.S. potatoes. 91,494 acres are dedicated to wheat for grain making it the country’s largest crop by acreage. The city’s Land Capacity Analysis indicates that because of the population growth that expansion into agricultural land beyond city limits must be converted into residential zones to meet the growth of people. But by doing so we are wasting precious land that sustains our county.   

Essay Question 2:
Deidra Murphy is a major influence in my life. Deidra is my pageant coach and has been the one to teach me how to be a confident individual. I was diagnosed with dyslexia in second grade and su ered in silence, that created frustration, bad self-esteem, and overall made me feel dumb. For years I struggled with this, and when I decided to join a pageant using her as my pageant coach, she helped me break free of my biggest insecurity and become my most confident self. Because of her I’ve created dyslexia reading kits (That have reading tools in them). Her impact in my life goes beyond words because she changed the very mentality of who I believed I was. My grandpa is also a major influence in my life. He is the head of electrical engineering for Washington’s Transit System. I have always looked up to my grandpa because he has taught me that hard work will get you far but the simple things in life are what can give you joy. He’s a very talented musician, used to live in Hawaii and surf, takes time to go crabbing in the Puget Sound, and always makes time for his family. It’s important to have dreams and goals, but he appreciates the little things and lives in the now. Time is precious and he never fails to make the most of it, and that to me is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned.

My dad Kevin Bleazard and he serves as the Northwest Regional Manager for Valley Ag where he leads the company’s ag retail operations in Washington State. In his role, he helps to provide strategic oversight to the Valley Ag retail locations, ensuring they have the operational support, sales leadership and distribution necessary to deliver the crop needs to regional farmers.  He is always dedicated to supporting the local farmer, growing business and helping Valley Ag being successful in Washington State.

That desire to care for others grew stronger as I watched all four of my grandparents battle serious illnesses, including cancer. Essay Question 1:
One of the most challenging issues our country faces, as it relates to my hometown and community, is the unequal access to healthcare for many families. While I am fortunate to have access to medical care, I have seen how others in my community struggle due to financial barriers, limited providers, or lack of transportation. These challenges often lead people to delay care, which can cause health issues to worsen and place additional strain on families and local hospitals. Healthcare should be something people can rely on, yet for many families it feels uncertain or out of reach. My recent foot surgery made this issue even more personal for me. Although my procedure was planned and I had access to good medical care, the recovery process was much harder than I expected. Simple daily tasks became difficult, and I had to rely on others for help. Experiencing pain, limited mobility, and the emotional frustration that comes with recovery helped me understand how vulnerable patients can feel. It made me realize that even with access to care, healing is not easy at all, and for those without proper access, the challenge is even greater. This experience gave me a deeper appreciation for nurses and healthcare providers who offer not just treatment, but reassurance and encouragement during difficult moments. Another challenge that affects my way of life is the growing need for both physical and emotional support for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. Through my experiences with sick family members, community involvement, and now my own surgery recovery, I have seen how important compassionate and consistent care is for maintaining quality of life. Many individuals rely heavily on healthcare workers not just for medical treatment, but for comfort, communication, and advocacy. The emotional aspect of care can be just as important as the physical treatment itself. These challenges have shaped my desire to pursue nursing. Even though I personally have access to care, I want to use that privilege and my education to support those who may not have the same resources. My surgery strengthened my understanding of what it feels like to be in a vulnerable position, and it confirmed my passion for serving others during difficult times. By becoming a nurse, I hope to serve my community by providing skilled, compassionate care and helping ensure that every patient feels valued, heard, and supported.  

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life have been my grandparents. All four of them have battled cancer, and walking alongside them through illness has shaped who I am and who I want to become. Two of my grandparents have passed away, and the other two continue to face health challenges. Through these experiences, I learned the true meaning of strength, resilience, and love. Watching my grandparents endure treatments, hospital stays, and recovery taught me the importance of compassion and presence. I saw how much a kind word, a gentle touch, or simply being there could make a difference during difficult moments. I also witnessed the impact that caring nurses had on my grandparents, not only through medical care, but through patience, encouragement, and advocacy. Their example showed me how powerful it is to serve others with empathy. My grandparents influenced me by teaching me to value people over circumstances and to find purpose in helping others. Their courage and perseverance continue to inspire my desire to become a nurse. I want to honor their influence by caring for others the way they were cared for: wholeheartedly, compassionately, and with genuine respect.

Essay Question 1:
I believe one of the most challenging issues America faces is that some of the hardest-working individuals in our country go unnoticed. Our society is blessed to be able to walk into a grocery store and purchase a gallon of milk, as well as to have the privilege of free education. Sometimes we can take this for granted and overlook the individuals who work behind the scenes to make these opportunities possible. My father and mother are these people, and growing up, I always wished that they were acknowledged for what they do thanklessly. My dad delivers dairy products and works long hours to ensure that all stores and schools in the Lewis-Clark community (and surrounding areas) are provided with the product they need for consumption. My mother, on the other hand, is a freshman English teacher at the high school, working hard to provide valuable lessons that help students achieve a standards-based education. My parents’ combined income allows my brother and me to have a home and food on the table. Even though their jobs are not the biggest money-makers, without people who work jobs like my parents’, America would not be able to function. In today’s society, influencers on TikTok and Instagram can make more money from a post than my parents’ jobs produce in a month. I watch my dad work long hours and my mom devote family time to grading, therefore I believe it is important that citizens who work to benefit our country do not go unrecognized.   

Essay Question 2:
The most influential person in my life is my father, Bradley Lott. My dad is my rock, always offering me advice as I navigate the many struggles of my teenage years, and an abundance of love and support. Most of all, the most valuable quality about my father is his work ethic. My father is a very honorable man who works in transportation for Meadow Gold Dairy, waking up early at two in the morning and then working until four in the afternoon, sometimes even longer. There are days when he works so hard to provide for my family that he does not even get around to eating dinner before exhaustion overtakes him. My dad has taught me that hard work is one of the most important qualities a person can possess. His teachings fuel my dedication to my education and goals, and help me achieve them to the best of my ability. My dad has shown me that hard work is a necessity in life, as it builds resilience and instills a sense of pride and accomplishment. It is important to remember that hard work is what this country is built on, and not to forget the hard-working individuals who make the luxuries and conveniences in America possible. My dad has also taught me that things in life cannot just be handed to you, and I take this to heart, making sure I apply a strong work ethic in all areas of my life. Dad is not only a dedicated worker but a devoted father who has provided me with the utmost love and a beautiful childhood full of lifelong lessons and precious moments.   

Essay Question 3:
My grandfather, Carl Pendleton, the owner of Pendleton Custom Farming, has been associated with Valley Wide and other predecessor companies for over 35 years. He began serving on the board of Idaho Grange Cooperative in 1985 and was their chairman when Idaho Grange merged with Wendell Grange, creating Valley Cooperative. Grandpa remained the chairman of the Valley Cooperative throughout its existence. Valley Cooperative then merged with Valley Wide Cooperative, and Grandpa served as a chairman for Valley throughout the merging and retired in 2021. The business was so successful that when he retired, the sales were just short of half a billion dollars.

Future Plans:
I love learning and have long dreamed of the day that I could set foot on a college campus as a student. Education has been such an instrumental part of my life that I hope to pursue becoming a teacher or being a Speech Language Pathologist. Throughout my time in school, I’ve been encouraged, challenged, and supported by teachers. It is because of their influence that has made me want to do the same for others. While anyone can be a teacher, I want to have the professional training needed to make a difference in the classroom and lives of other children. Going to college is the next step to help me fulfill that goal. Just like all the teachers before me, I hope to make an impact and share the joy of learning. A lifelong goal of mine is to help others, whether that be by becoming an educator or just being an active member of my community as a mother one day. Most of all I want to continue pursuing and sharing my passions for agriculture, education, and people. Leadership:
I wish time could stop. Being active in my community, high school, and family makes every moment seem fleeting, but also so precious. I am actively involved in the Vale FFA Chapter, and formerly Willowcreek Creekers 4-H Club, where I developed my passion for agriculture and leadership. From competing in livestock shows to speaking on the stage, each has been a learning experience. At Vale High School, I compete in cross country and track. Which has taught me teamwork, and the value of consistent effort. Nobody is left behind, and there is an element of fun to be found even in the hardest workout. Through my Young Women’s group at my church, we do service projects and weekly activities to connect with each other and our faith. I also enjoy playing the piano, photography, and painting. These have been a creative outlet for me and allowed me to share good with others through handmade cards. Beyond school activities, I have worked as a babysitter, on our family farm, and as a co-owner in my sister’s business. Altogether, these experiences are what fill my days and encourage me to do better.

Essay Question 1:
“I’m  so  glad  to  see  you  today.”  The  answer  to  the  biggest  plight  of  today:  loneliness.  We  have swapped  reality  for  reels  online,  thinking  those  influencers  are  of  higher  value  than  the  people  just  feet away  from  us.  That  is  not  true.  Every  individual  matters.  With  this  truth  in  mind,  I  have  been  on  a  quest  to know  everyone,  by  name,  in  my  high  school.  Simply  calling  people  by  name  is  powerful.  I  have  been surprised  by  how  much  people  enjoy  that  brief  acknowledgement  of  their  presence.  These  two  second conversations  with  newfound  friends  are  the  highlight  of  my  day.  Little  actions  like  these  are  what  creates a  community.  A  place  where  people  know  they  are  seen  and  appreciated.  As  a  group,  focused  on  a  shared vision  we  find  our  greatest  successes.  No  one  is  alone,  take  that  second  to  reach  out.  Afterall,  one  kind word  could  be  the  difference  between  a  normal  day  and  a  horrible  day.  I  believe  that  as  we  put  more  of  a focus  on  genuine  connection  rather  than  economical  gain  we  will  find  what  we  have  been  missing.  Now, this  is  not  a  singular  passion  but  a  group  effort  as  we  work  to  serve  and  work  alongside  our  fellow neighbors.  No  matter  what,  “I’m  so  glad  to  see  you  today.”  

Essay Question 2:
“Class class. Yes yes.” Third grade was a dream. In part because there was recess, but more so because of my teacher Mrs. Robertson. Mrs. Robertson is someone who exemplified what it meant to genuinely love others. Our class woke up early each morning excited for what we would be learning, knowing that each day would be happily different. From the multiplication table races to designing our very own witch shoes, or going on field trips-Mrs. Robertson taught by example how to be passionately curious about the world around us. Every homework assignment, permission slip, and book read was worth its weight in gold and exchanged for tokens to be used during our classroom parties. Her example and dedication to us as students opened my eyes to how wonderful the world could be. Cursive was my nemesis until she showed me how pretty making loops can be. Talking in front of others, let alone singing to an audience, was my worst fear until she proudly told us to “be loud! You were meant to do this!” The memories of her classroom still influence me today. When meeting someone new I hope to invite them in with the same energy and love that she had. When faced with a problem, I remember her patience. No matter where I go, my only hope is to live like Mrs. Robertson.  

Essay Question 3:
My  grandparents  Bruce  and  Renae  Corn,  as  well  as  my  grandparents  Lloyd  and  Sue Saunders  have  been  members  of  the  Valley  Wide  Cooperative  for  many  years.  If  there  was  to  be one  word  to  describe  their  lives  it  would  be:  dedication.  No  matter  what  type  of  growing  season they  have  had,  they  are  quick  to  answer  the  call  for  help  at  any  time  of  day.  They  are  generous  in all  that  they  do  and  truly  embody  what  it  means  to  be  an  agriculturist.  Raising  crops  of  onions, beets,  wheat,  corn,  and  hay  each  year  they  rely  on  the  Valley  Wide  Co-op  to  make  each  year  go well.

As of now, my prospective major is marketing. I have come to realize the value of effective marketing in a digitally filled society and believe that I could use my skills to benefit others. When choosing a major I want to look for something that interests me as well as will benefit the world, or at least some of the people within it. Marketing is a subject that interests me greatly, and I would be more than excited to learn more about it. I know that there are many people within the world who don’t have knowledge about marketing, and it can severely affect the success of their business. With a marketing degree I hope to educate small businesses, and help them to become more successful and knowledgeable. And one day, I plan to own a business of my own, and I believe my knowledge in marketing will greatly benefit the success of that business.

I have been very involved during my time at Nyssa High School. I have played volleyball, basketball, and softball for four years. I also currently serve as the Senior Class Vice President, Young Women President, and Nyssa FFA Chapter Sentinel. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer at the following events over the past years: the Nyssa Elementary Harvest Carnival, the Malheur Connections Boo Bash, the Malheur County Spelling Bee, and countless youth service projects. 

Essay Question 1:
The influence of social media and artificial intelligence stands as one of the most important issues facing our society today. Social media offers considerable benefits alongside substantial drawbacks. Though intended to offer connection, it often achieves the opposite. Children and adults alike turn to social media to escape the stresses of the world. One minute of conversation with a friend easily escalates into hours of unproductive scrolling. Although it has potential for good, it too often results in wasted time. Artificial intelligence is also a very dangerous source of information that is plaguing our generation with its convenience. Instead of engaging in the work required to find information or create original assignments, with a press of a button, desired content can easily be generated. AI is captivating minds and encouraging laziness. I have personally observed my peers consistently choosing the path of least resistance offered by AI. The desire to work hard within our generation is slowly fading with the attitude of ease that is being promoted by AI and social media. With the fabrication of documents and assignments, students fail to truly learn. The reliance we are developing with AI is creating employees who don’t know how to truly work hard. I’ve witnessed this within our family farm. Many new hires tend to shy away from labor. Finding people who are willing to work hard has become increasingly difficult. Artificial intelligence and social media are slowly creating a future workforce of undisciplined and dependent people.  

Essay Question 2:
The biggest influence throughout my life has been my dad. My dad has consistently been a source of strength and inspiration. My grandparents taught him the importance of working hard as well as showing love to all. He has developed these attributes through his dedication to our family farm. He has worked long hours since he was young, and continues to hold our farm together. After graduating from high school he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, spending two years of his life serving others and teaching them about Jesus Christ. His example of Christlike love and service no matter the cost has inspired me to serve a mission as well. I’ve witnessed the effect his service has had in his life and desire to be able to achieve similar qualities. After his mission he got married to my mom, and prepared to be a worthy father. He has done so consistently throughout my life. I have many fond memories of my dad showing up for my activities in his work-worn clothes and dirt smeared face, and I remember being so proud that he was my dad. Through his consistent actions I’ve been better able to feel his love and desire to become more like him. A caring parent, a Christlike disciple, and an example of what it means to work hard and always give it your all.

My father, as a member of Mountain Valley Enterprises, has been a loyal customer and member of the Valley Wide Cooperative for many years. Preceding my father was my grandfather. He was a longstanding supporter of the Nyssa Cooperative and followed it through its development into the Valley Wide Cooperative. He began our farm’s involvement with the organization and encouraged its continuation. Today, the farm purchases seed, fertilizer, and fuel for farm operations. My father continues our involvement as he has been a two-time board member nominee and attended several leadership seminars. The cooperative has been a very beneficial resource in our farm’s history and continues to offer support to us today!

My future plans are to graduate high school at the end of May. This summer, I have a job (for my second year) at Wallowa Lake Methodist Camp and I’m excited to meet different people from various backgrounds. Then, in the fall I will move to Bend, Oregon to attend Central Oregon Community College. I will major in early childhood education for my first two years at the community college. I will then transfer to a university to get my bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate. I hope to be able to come back to my hometown to teach future generations..
I have been a teacher’s assistant in 1st grade last year and currently in 2nd grade this year. Helping children is a big passion of mine and that has helped me choose my major.

I have received two FFA Awards. These include My Greenhand Award and Crops and Weeds Identification Award. I have taken ag classes every year. They have included Introduction to Agriculture, Horticulture Plants and Flowers, Horticulture Soils and Fertilization, Construction, and Shop..
I was on our FFA Soils team two years. I also went to FFA National Convention in 2023. 

Leadership:
I live in a small town called Enterprise, Oregon in Wallowa County. Our county is mostly supported by agriculture. This includes farmers and ranchers. Most of my volunteer and leadership experiences have been helping children in our community.  I have been a camp counselor and leader for the past 2 years and already signed up for this summer at our Chief Joseph Camp. This is a camp for second through eighth graders to explore our great outdoors and what our mountains have to offer. At our school, I have volunteered with FCCLA for a few Parent Night Outs and also have been a server at our Wallowa County Health Care District Hospital Dinner for two years. 

Essay Question 1:
In your opinion, what do you consider to be the most challenging issue(s) that your country faces as it relates to your hometown, community, or way of life? I think the most challenging current issue that the country is facing is gas prices. We live an hour and 15 minutes to the closest bigger town that has a Walmart and multiple gas stations. With more competition in that area, their gas prices are lower and more affordable. However, in our rural county, our gas prices are higher, and we must drive more than one hour to get to any bigger stores, movie theaters, entertainment like bowling alleys, and even further from home to go to an airport. With gas prices rising rapidly, it is very hard for our community to be able to afford and budget for these higher expenses. This affects my choices and way of life because the summer wages that I have saved to spend throughout the year are getting drained. I would love to go to the surrounding cities for entertainment and other opportunities, but with the higher gas prices I must limit my trips and adventures.

Who were/are the most influential people in your life and in what way did they influence you? My family are the most influential people in my life. My parents have always been my biggest supporters of everything. My dad has encouraged me to try new things and stay motivated. My dad has influenced me to always push my limits, even if I feel like I am not able to. My mom is a very good motivator. She has always wanted me to stay on top of my grades and everything. She wants me to “give it my all”. My mother influenced me to always try my best, regardless of the circumstances. My twin brother has always cheered me on, even if it is in his own irritating way. We have been through every aspect of life together and in the fall, we will be going our separate ways. My brother has influenced me by pushing me to try new things and likes to remind people often that he is older than me. That is why my family is my biggest influence.

Please describe your parents, grandparents, or your family’s involvement in Valley Wide Cooperative. My grandpa is a member of Valley Wide Cooperative. He was raised on a farm and has his master’s degree in agriculture education. Throughout his life, he has worked in many different careers, but almost all of them have had to do with agriculture in some way. He currently has a small farm and has always had animals. It has been fun for me to visit him and see his various animals throughout my life. He is an owner in a truck dispatching company and helps get crops, food, and various other products across the United States. His dad (my great grandpa) was a farmer and had cattle also. On my other side of the family, my brother and I are the sixth generation of that family farm. It was homesteaded by my great-great-great grandparents.

Essay Question 1:
In your opinion, what do you consider to be the most challenging issue(s) that your country faces as it relates to your home town, community, or way of life? In my opinion the most challenging issue that our country faces is the inconsistent economy. The economy directly affects everything from the cost of living to job availability. In my community we have very little opportunities and when something changes the whole area hears about it. For example gas prices, our gas is the highest in the surrounding areas simply because we are in the mountains and hard to get to. For families that live pay check to pay check these inconsistent price levels are tough. They rely on the price to be just low enough just so they can pay rent and drive the kids to school every morning. With the poor job setting in our area as well there are zero opportunities. There are many families in my community that can only get high labor jobs like the forest service which is only during the summer. And even if they have a year around job with the price of rent and housing paying the bills still becomes difficult. Including the amount of grocery trips you have to take; nowadays the grocery store will run you more money than ever before just for a few groceries. The fluctuate economy has my community in a chokehold.

Who were/are the most influential people in your life and in what way did they influence you? The most influential people in my life are my family and friends. They benefit my life everyday and I couldn’t be more grateful. They’ve taught me so many valuable lessons, showed me how to enjoy life, and taught me how to be a great human. My family has been there every step of the way and taught me everything. Whether it’s my drive for standing up for what’s right, excellence in the classroom, or to be kind to everyone it was always something. They’ve always been my biggest fan through it all. My friends gave me a sense of competition and resilience. They taught me to step out of my comfort zone and to give everything my best shot even if you’re not very good at it. They always made everything a competition and encouraged me to beat them simply because they knew it would make me better. I also couldn’t be more grateful for my friends that brought me closer to the Lord and his wonderful creations. Through it all my friends and family are my biggest light in life and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Please describe your parents, grandparents, or your family’s involvement in Valley Wide Cooperative. Throughout my life my grandpa has always been involved in agriculture. For as long as I remember I can remember going to his house and seeing all his farm animals and being simply amazed. He grew up on a farm and got his masters degree in agriculture education from the University Of Kentucky. He’s told me stories of all the jobs he’s worked and one thing is always in common, agriculture. Agriculture has run through my family for years and I can’t wait to follow in his footsteps. My brother and I are the sixth generation of a family farm and though I don’t plan to go there I plan to have animals my kids can enjoy just like I enjoyed seeing my grandpa’s animals. Currently my grandpa’s truck dispatching company helps get crops, food, and various other products across the country. This connection to agriculture gave him every reason to join Valley Wide Cooperative and I couldn’t be more proud of him for it.

Future Plans:
Many kids have the goal to become a millionaire when they grow up. While these dreams seem out of reach, they have some aspects that still apply to most young adults today. What job can I have that sets me up well for my future? This question is just one of the numerous factors that I considered before deciding my major. Some other factors have been job market trends, cost, time, and projected salary after graduation. It is important to keep factors like these in mind because they determine if your major is worth going to college for, and how beneficial it will actually be in the future. Although these factors are important, to me, my biggest influence in this decision has been my interest in science. Science has always interested me. I love learning about our solar system, the science of matter, and especially the human body. I have always found the human body especially fascinating and miraculous. I took an anatomy and physiology class, diving into the science of what our bodies are and how they work. Learning about all the body systems was so intriguing to me. The exact science of every human being is incredible, and it is amazing that if there were a minuscule difference in any of its systems, then our bodies wouldn’t work. When I told my dad about all of the things we learned in class, he told me that he was the same when he was younger and that was what prompted him to pursue nursing. From that moment on, I searched for experiences that could help me explore a nursing career.

In  your  opinion,  what  do  you  consider  to  be  the  most  challenging  issue(s)  that  your  country faces  as  it  relates  to  your  home  town,  community,  or  way  of  life? Life  on  a  rural  farm  is  already  really  hard.  Farmers  have  to  wake  up  super  early,  work  long  days outside,  and  deal  with  things  they  can’t  control  like  bad  weather,  broken  equipment,  and changing  crop  prices.  On  top  of  all  that,  many  farmers  today  are  struggling  to  find  enough workers  because  people  are  afraid  of  immigration  enforcement,  especially  from  U.S. Immigration  and  Customs  Enforcement  (ICE). A  lot  of  farms  depend  on  migrant  workers  to  plant  and  harvest  crops.  The  work  is  tiring  and seasonal,  and  not  many  local  people  want  to  do  it.  When  there  are  rumors  that  ICE  might  be nearby,  workers  can  get  scared.  Some  stop  showing  up  to  work,  and  others  leave  town completely.  Even  workers  who  have  legal  documents  might  feel  nervous  about  being questioned.  This  fear  makes  it  really  hard  for  farmers  to  know  if  they’ll  have  enough  help  during important  times  like  planting  and  harvest  seasons. If  crops  aren’t  planted  or  harvested  on  time,  farmers  can  lose  a  lot  of  money  because  they already  spent  money  on  seeds,  water,  and  supplies.  One  bad  harvest  can  seriously  hurt  a  small family  farm.  The  whole  community  can  also  be  affected.  Small  towns  depend  on  farms  to  keep local  businesses  running.  If  farms  struggle,  stores  and  schools  can  struggle  too.  Families  might move  away,  the  town  can  feel  smaller  and  less  connected  and  everything  feels  uncertain. For  farmers,  it’s  incredibly  frustrating.  Rural  farming  is  stressful  enough  without  worrying  about losing  workers.  The  fear  of  immigration  enforcement  adds  even  more  pressure  to  farmers  who are  just  trying  to  do  their  jobs  and  support  their  families.

Who  were/are  the  most  influential  people  in  your  life,  and  in  what  way  did  they  influence  you? Everyone  has  a  role  model  they  look  up  to—  someone  who  sets  the  standard  for  who  they  hope to  be.  For  some,  it  is  a  celebrity  or  famous  athlete.  For  me,  it  is  someone  most  people  would never  recognize.  My  biggest  inspiration  is  my  dad,  who  is  a  nurse  and  a  preceptor  for  students at  a  teaching  hospital.  He  has  shown  me  how  to  lead  with  compassion  and  positivity  even  in  the hardest  situations,  and  the  importance  of  building  relationships  and  connecting  with  others. My  dad  is  known  as  the  “Singing  Nurse”  because  after  every  patient  comes  out  of  surgery  he offers  to  sing  them  a  song  of  their  choice.  He  believes  that  every  time  he  does  this,  it  helps  ease the  nerves  of  the  patients  and  their  family  members  after  the  stress  of  the  surgery.  One  day,  I actually  got  to  be  in  the  room  with  a  patient  while  he  sang  to  them,  and  it  was  incredible  to  see how  much  joy  it  brought  them.  His  enthusiasm  and  compassion  have  shown  me  the  impact  that dedicated  caregivers  can  have  on  others.  My  dad’s  advice  and  example  have  shaped  me  into the  hardworking  and  compassionate  person  that  I  am  today.  

Essay Question 3:
Please  describe  your  parents,  grandparents,  or  your  family’s  involvement  in  Valley  Wide Cooperative. My  grandpa,  Vaughn  Schulthies,  had  a  dairy  farm  and  farmed  with  his  family  his  whole  life  in Nyssa,  Oregon.  My  mother  grew  up  on  the  family  farm  with  seven  siblings,  learning  the  value  of hard  work.  Later,  my  grandpa  formed  a  family  farming  corporation  with  two  of  his  sons,  my uncles  Weston  and  Stoney  Schulthies,  called  Mountain  Valley  Enterprises.  Grandpa  and  my uncles  have  been  members  of  the  coop  for  many  years. The  COVID-19  pandemic  in  2020  was  especially  difficult  for  our  family,  as  it  took  both  my maternal  grandparents—Grandpa  in  September  and  Grandma  three  weeks  later  in  October. Because  no  one  was  allowed  in  hospitals,  they  were  isolated.  This  experience  propelled  me  to become  a  nurse,  caring  for  others  whether  they  are  alone  or  surrounded  by  support. Although  we  don’t  personally  farm—my  father  works  as  a  nurse  at  the  local  hospital—we  live  in my  grandparents’  home  on  the  farm  and  cherish  the  lifestyle  and  lessons  that  come  with  it.  I enjoy  the  wide  open  spaces  and  being  close  to  my  cousins  and  extended  family. My  parents  have  taught  me  the  importance  of  hard  work  through  chores  and  responsibilities around  the  house  and  farm.  Most  importantly,  my  mom  has  taught  me  to  apply  that  dedication  to my  education.  Whether  spending  extra  time  on  a  tough  concept  or  pushing  myself  beyond what’s  required,  I  am  proud  to  give  my  best.  The  values  of  hard  work  and  perseverance  from  my family’s  farming  background  will  continue  to  guide  me  toward  my  academic  and  career  goals.

Essay Question 1:
The most challenging issue that my country is facing that affects my community is inflation. Inflation is affecting the cost of many things right now and causing the price to go up. This highly affects a lot of the smaller farms in my area that are struggling to keep up with the rising prices. These farms already aren’t making much money and what little they make most has to go back in to buy more stuff for the next season. A lot of these smaller farms are going bankrupt all because of the inflation of products.

My Grandma is one of the most influential people in my life. She is the kindest and most generous person I know. She cares so much about everyone. I strive to be like her not just in the future, but also now.  My parents have also been very influential in my life. They have supported me with everything and are always there for me. They are the reason I am going down the path I am. They have taught me to love agriculture and animals the way that I do. They have also given me a great example for the type of parent I want to be in the future.

Future Plans:
I decided I wanted to pursue pediatrics during an 18 day humanitarian trip to Brazil. I was able to help build a school for children in a struggling community. Watching the children’s excitement over something as simple as a classroom reshaped my understanding of privilege. I realized that education and healthcare are connected, and children are unable to learn if they are struggling with an untreated illness. I want to ensure that children, despite their circumstance, can have the health and support they need to grow, learn, and succeed. This scholarship will allow me to focus on my education and continue serving communities in need. My goal is to become a pediatrician who not only treats illness, but truly protects a child’s opportunity for a brighter future. 

Awards:
When I was still living in Idaho, I did 4H and FFA for four years. In school, during class I was the president and went to many competitions for Parliament Procedure. l also participated in fair week, showing a cow each year. My greatest award was winning Reserve Grand Champion my last year! I would buy my heifer in April and show her in August. During those summer months, it took a lot of responsibility but it was where I learned to work the hardest. Each year, I learned something new and got out what I put in. Each of these moments and accomplishments represented my dedication and commitment to the program. 

Leadership:
I participate in many service activities that demonstrate my leadership. I am a youth counselor in the Special Needs Mutual program, my focus is to lead activities, be a friend, and include everyone. As a yearbook editor, I lead my staff to success by meeting deadlines, taking meaningful photos, and writing expressive captions. While playing volleyball, I excelled at being a great teammate and being dedicated through and through. All of these experiences have helped me learn to communicate, take initiative, and support others around me within my school and community. 

Essay Question 1:
One of the most challenging issues facing this generation is the growing struggles within mental health. Mental health is often overlooked within young adults. Many students and teenagers within my community have difficulties juggling school, work, sports, social life, and pressure. In many of these cases, students struggle quietly because there isn’t a lot of easy access to counseling or therapy because it is often judged. When these issues are not treated early on, it can significantly affect school and sports. Slowly but surely, schools and parents are beginning to realize the importance of mental health and how much of a hold it actually has on teenagers and young adults. Being able to address these concerns takes dedication and awareness, but I truly do want to prioritize learning to ask for help. Supporting mental health is so important and essential for inspiring and creating confident teens. Feeling comfortable and creating an environment where individuals are able to share their feelings makes a significant difference in their day-to-day lives and overall well being. I think that when younger adults feel as though they are supported and have access to help, they have a much better shot at success.   

Essay Question 2:
Some of the most influential people in my life have been the people closest to me, my parents, and my grandmother. My parents have been my biggest support since the beginning. They have encouraged me to be independent and work hard from a very young age. They have taught me to work hard and serve others. Through their every-day examples, I have learned the importance of: patience, responsibility, service, and putting forth my best efforts in everything I do. Their constant encouragement and support have helped me out of many dark times in my life. My grandma has been such an important person in my life. She is my best friend. She never fails to make me laugh and I have learned how to love other people through service because of her. She has taught me the importance of faith, kindness, and never giving up on the people you love. She has always led by example and I’m so grateful for her influence in my life. Both my parent’s and grandmother’s qualities are ones that I hope to help my children and grandchildren in the future. Because of their impact on me, I have learned what I want to accomplish and how I want to do it, by working hard, staying strong in my faith, and showing kindness and compassion to others.

My family’s involvement with Valley Wide has been mainly through our regular purchases to support our daily life and farm. My parents consistently relied on the co-op to provide products such as grain, fencing, fertilizer, and other equipment. Valley Wide has proven to be a dependable place for my family to receive the materials we need to continue growing. When I was younger, I always tagged along to the co-op. It was very interesting and fun for me to learn how the business worked and expenses when participating in 4H. These experiences helped me gain a better understanding on why so many businesses and agricultural events rely on this store.

I have recently discovered my passion for engineering. I am drawn to this field because it blends hands-on work with critical thinking and math.    I am also a horse girl and love the agricultural life.   Agriculture is constantly evolving through new technology, research, and management practices, and I want to be prepared not just to participate in that change, but to lead within it. I am especially interested in learning how engineering principles apply to agricultural operations so that I can support myself financially while I manage my own farm that is both ethically and financially sustainable.

During the summer at camp, I help organize, clean, and decorate the 4H camp in Donnelly to get it ready for the upcoming camp year.  As a camp counselor I am responsible for 8-10 school age girls.  I make sure they get to all of their classes and responsibilities on time, keep their cabin clean and organized, keep them entertained during free time, and help keep the peace.  I also teach several classes during camp to include Dutch oven cooking, archery, and fishing. Essay Question 1:
The biggest challenge my hometown and the rest of the country faces is rapid population growth.  My hometown is an agricultural hub surrounded by beautiful, irreplaceable natural wilderness.   As part of population growth, our community is experiencing rapid conversion of vital farmland into residential neighborhoods. Historically, Idaho’s land use has been rooted in agriculture, but this scene is shifting as a growing population brings an influx of new people and new ideas. This transition poses a direct threat to our way of life and global food security. 
Farms are not merely open spaces; they are the essential framework that provides the world, our country, and my community with food. As this land disappears, we risk a future where we cannot produce enough to sustain our population. However, the solution is not as simple as relocating to uninhabited land– much of that territory must be preserved for wildlife. We have a responsibility to respect these natural habitats while simultaneously addressing the housing crisis. 
To protect our community’s future, we must find innovative ways to house people without destroying what little agricultural land and natural habitat we have left. The challenge lies in balancing urban growth with land preservation.  Without a sustainable approach to land management, my community loses the very foundation of our identity and our survival.
 

Essay Question 2:
The most influential figures in my life today are my mother and my peers, each providing a unique viewpoint for navigating a complicated world. Through their combined guidance, I have developed the confidence that I can not only survive but thrive in the future I am building.
My mother has been my main influence. By emphasizing the power of higher education, she has shown me how academic dedication can fill the gap between passion and success. My mom showed me how an education can provide the financial stability necessary to pursue her passion for horses.   I hope to one day follow in her footsteps. Her influence is the reason I have chosen to pursue a career in agricultural engineering; she taught me that a solid educational foundation is the most reliable tool for achieving long-term stability.
Complementing this, my friends have provided a different, yet equally important, perspective on resilience. Some of them possess a clear vision of their future, meticulously planning their careers and personal goals, while others are still searching for their path in life.  Each of them have taught me a valuable lesson in remaining adaptable and remembering to enjoy life.   My friends know that I am the kind of person that is always busy…. always trying something new and constantly learning.  I forget to stop and relax.  They remind me how important this is.
Together, these influences have shaped my worldview. My mother has provided the drive for a structured career, while my friends offer the reassurance that flexibility and leisure time are valuable. Whether I am following a precise plan or spinning with uncertainty, I know I possess the resilience to succeed in this changing world.

My grandparents have raised beef steers, chicken eggs, and pork for decades.  Valley Wide Cooperative has been the main supplier of their feed and supplies.  My grandparents also buy fuel and snacks at your store on a regular basis. 
My parents are not members, but they buy ethanol free fuel from Valley Wide.
Valley Wide was also the only supplier for my show goat feed.  I raised two meat goats for FFA last year, and your stores were the only stores that stocked my choice of show goat feed (MoorMans ShowTec).

My future career goal is to be a collegiate meat science teacher I want to do this because I am very interested in meat science and I want a career where I will be able to share that passion with those around me as well as being in a career where I will still be able to learn more about meat through research projects and talking to others in the field. .
I plan on having my major be animal science which will allow me to take many classes that will prepare me for a career about animal products. I also believe that it is very important in meat science to be knowledgeable about the animals that the meat comes from and know how different raising and harvesting procedures can lead to a different quality final product. .
Another opportunity that I will have in college is being able to compete on the collegiate meats judging team at Clarendon College where I plan to soak up as much information I can about the meat industry and the meat judging program so that I will have the ability to be involved in that program at the college I end up teaching at.

Leadership:
The main example of this is my involvement in my school’s FFA chapter. In FFA, I have served on the officer team for three years where I learned how to plan and run meetings and activities for the chapter. I have also received my State Degree in FFA. I have competed in many diverse CDEs, most notably, Meat Evaluation. In the Meat Evaluation CDE I won the state contest both individually and as a team in 2025 and qualified for nationals. At nationals, I placed 12th individually receiving an individual gold award and was on the 7th place team. In FFA I was also involved in many leadership activities such as SOLR. I have also competed in LDEs including Parliamentary Procedure and Employment Skills. .
Another part of FFA that I am very involved in is community service where I have been able to help plan and participate in many different community service projects. An example of this is that I have helped plan and participate in our chapter’s Senior Christmas party in which our chapter brought gifts to senior citizens living at a local senior living home in Twin Falls. FFA has really done a lot to help me develop a passion for agriculture and as well as it has helped me to get started in meat science which is the career I plan to pursue. .
Outside of the FFA, I am also involved in the Filer National Honor Society chapter where I am currently serving as the Chapter President for the 2025-2026 school year. Through the NHS I have been able to learn how to lead large group meetings and organize people to do community service projects.  .
The last main club that I have been involved in is 4-H where I served as President last year and raised market steers for the fair. Through doing this I was able to learn more about raising beef cattle and teaching younger members about the beef industry. With 4-H I have also been involved in many community service activities such as picking weeds and cleaning up around the beef show ring. 

Essay Question 1:
I believe that the largest issue affecting our country is agricultural literacy. In our country there is a large disconnect between producers and consumers, leading to fewer and fewer people knowing where their food comes from. Recently I have seen many examples of people on social media, with no background in agriculture, spreading misinformation about the industry, especially livestock and meat production. This lack of knowledge about agriculture leads to problems such as misinformation and a lack of trust in the people who produce our food. I believe that the best solution to this problem is educating the youth on agriculture and getting students excited to learn about where their food comes from. 
This is important to me because I have grown up farming, raising cattle, and participating in my local FFA chapter, so seeing others who don’t know anything about the agricultural industry spreading damaging misconceptions encourages me to fight this issue. Using my background in FFA Meat Evaluation and my knowledge from college and collegiate meat judging, I plan on addressing this issue by being involved in agricultural education as a Meat Science Professor at a college. In doing this I plan on directly teaching college students as well as teaching high schoolers through events such as FFA tours and judging contests. I believe that by educating people on the industry I will be able to stress the importance of agriculture to all people and help bridge the gap between farmers and consumers. (Word Count 248)
 

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my parents. They have both spent a lot of time teaching me plenty of life skills and have helped me to be a better and more successful person. 
My dad has helped me plenty by teaching different farm skills and helping me to learn more about raising cattle, irrigation, and running a business. Even though I believe that these skills will be helpful in my life, I think that the most useful thing that my dad has taught me is the value of hard work instilled in me a very strong work ethic that has already helped me in more ways than I can count. My mom on the other hand has taught me a lot about how to be more organized and how to thrive under pressure. I believe that this will be useful in my future career because teachers tend to be very busy people and I believe that being able to stay on top of tasks and be able to work hard even if there is too much to do. I have personally been involved in Valley Wide Coop for many years already. I have bought feed and show supplies from the co-op since 2018. My family also uses feed sold by Valley Wide Coop for feeding steers and my dad buys fuel from Valley Wide for trucking and spreading fertilizer. My family and I also frequently buy medications, hardware, and fencing supplies from Valley Wide. Future Plans:
My future goal is to become a veterinarian, so when choosing a major I am focusing on fields that will prepare me for veterinary school and a career working with animals. I have always had a strong passion for animals and growing up around agriculture and raising pigs for my 4-H and FFA projects strengthened that passion even more. Through these experiences I learned how important animal health and proper care are, and it inspired me to pursue a career where I can help animals and the people who depend on them. When choosing a major, I will consider programs that offer strong science courses, hands on experience with animals, and preparation for veterinary school. Majoring in Animal Science on pre veterinary track will allow me to build the knowledge and skills I need while continuing to work with animals, which works perfectly with my long-term goal of becoming a veterinarian and eventually opening my own veterinary practice. 

Awards:
Through FFA, I have earned my greenhand, chapter, and state degree. I have also placed sixth in the state for the Milk Quality and Products CDE. I have gotten grand champion showman twice in 4-H, once in the intermediate bracket and in the senior bracket. 

Leadership:
I have been a 4-H club secretary for seven years and I served as club president for one year. I have also served as a greenhand secretary officer in FFA my freshman year. At my high school, I am in FFA, FCCLA, NHS, SOS (Sources of Strength), the yearbook staff, and I play high school softball. I have been involved in FFA and FCCLA for four years now and have completed multiple projects in both clubs. I have been involved in NHS, SOS, and the yearbook staff since the end of my sophomore year, I was invited to join all of these clubs. I was invited into NHS because of my grade point average. I was invited to join SOS because I was nominated by one of my teachers because they believe that I am a peer leader, and I could make a difference in my school. I was invited to join the yearbook staff because they thought that I was a responsible and creative student that could help make the yearbook look great. I have played high school softball for the last four years as well. 

Essay Question 1:
I feel like the first major challenge that my country faces that relates to my way of life is climate change. Our weather is consistently changing and these extreme cold temperatures and rising temperatures have the ability to damage many crops and the soils. The next challenge is the economic status, as these costs are always rising, this isn’t good for farmers because as we all know farming is a risk and it is hard to keep putting in more money when you are running out. This happens especially when the yield wasn’t as good as projected. The third challenge that my country faces that relates to my community is the trade policies. The new tariffs are affecting fertilizer and pesticide producers and are making the market very insatiable, and making it hard for the farmers to compete. The final thing that I believe is a challenging factor that affects my community is the new developments, especially in Idaho. We are turning more and more farm land into new homes, this is threatening the way of life for many Idahoans. This is making it very difficult to keep farm land preserved, especially because Idaho is most known for farming and growing potatoes. When our land keeps getting limited because we are making more and more “cookie cutter” homes, this makes every farmer question what the future will look like. 

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my father, mother, and grandfather. My dad has taught me the value of hard work and resilience. One summer, I struggled to get my pig to make weight, and he told me something I think about almost every day: no matter how hard you work or how much you try to control the outcome, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. But he reminded me never to give up, because in agriculture, and in life, there will always be good years and bad years. He is also incredibly supportive and always has my back. My mom is another major influence in my life. She is always there for me, rain or shine. Even when she’s exhausted, she still shows up to guide me, encourage me, and help me think through my next steps. I know I can be difficult at time, but she never stops loving or supporting me. Whether it’s a hug, a smile, or a shoulder to cry on, she reminds me that I can handle hard things. Lastly, my grandfather on my mom’s side has had a big impact on me. He listens without judgement, gives thoughtful advice, and reminds me to keep my faith and trust in God. After a hard day, he’s the first person I call, no matter how I start the conversation, I always end it laughing.

My passion for veterinary medicine began in childhood. Growing up around horses, cows, and other animals, I found joy in helping my dad care for them. From daily chores to long days spent trailing, branding, or moving cattle, I embraced the hard work with pride. My favorite days were when the veterinarian visited. Whether a vet came to examine our cows or we hauled a horse in for treatment, I eagerly asked to go along. That early fascination grew into a deep respect for the skill, dedication, and service the profession requires..
Through job shadowing, research, and agricultural experiences, my interest in large animal veterinary medicine has only strengthened. I am drawn to the resilience, problem-solving, and service-oriented nature of the field. After gaining experience in an established clinic, I hope to open my own practice to serve rural communities while building a stable future for my family..
Some factors I will have to consider as I am choosing my major are the time and effort that is going to have to spend on it. This major requires a lot of comittment and I feel that I am ready for that. It is also very expensive and takes some time to complete, but I am ready for the challenge that is ahead. Another thing I will have to consider is the path I will take to get the desired degree in the end, and the colleges I will have to jump around to, to make this the most efficient and realistic path.

Essay Question 1:
One of our biggest problems with society today is the lack of respect and responsibility people have. These two attributes should be core values for every person but when looking through my school and community, I often times do not see these being placed as core values in our daily lives. We should be respecting those who are older and wiser than us not talking back, mimicking, or ignoring them. I understand that we as people do not agree with everything being said by another but that is where respect comes in. To respect someone we do not have to believe the same as them or be their biggest suporter but we allow them to think and say what they want and listen regardless of what we think is best. Responsibility is the same way in today’s world. People have become lazy and want to do the least amount of work as possible. One of the biggest causes for this in my eyes is the technology advancements of the last few years specifically A.I. . In my community and school the amount of cheating, late work, and miscommunication has gone up tremendously. The bottom line is that people just don’t care like they should and this needs to change to make our society better.  

Essay Question 2:
Some of the most influential people in my life are my parents and my mentor, Randall Raymond. My mom and dad have had the greatest impact on who I am today because of the constant time, effort, and support they have invested in me. They have always encouraged my goals and believed in my abilities, whether it was something small or one of my biggest dreams. They have shown me what it truly means to care for others, work hard, and treat people with respect. Their dedication and example have shaped my values, and I would not be where I am today without their guidance and support. Over the past year, my mentor, Randall Raymond, has also become a very important influence in my life. Because he works in the profession I hope to pursue, he has given me valuable insight into the field and inspired me to continue working toward my goals. Through the time I have spent shadowing him and the many questions he has taken the time to answer, he has helped me gain both knowledge and confidence. His willingness to teach and support others, even when he is busy, shows the kind of person and professional he is. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn from him and will always appreciate the impact he has had on my future.

My family has been actively involved with Valley Wide Cooperative for many years, and it has played an important role in our connection to the agricultural community. My uncle works as a store manager in the Magic Valley area. In addition, my father and both of my grandfathers are members and maintain accounts with Valley Wide, which they use regularly to support their agricultural needs. Through their membership and my uncle’s position, Valley Wide Cooperative has been a meaningful part of my family’s daily life and our continued involvement in agriculture.

Future Plans:
My ultimate life goal is to farm my family’s farm with my parents and my sister. I want to go to college to study crop science so that I can become an agronomist and help farmers get the most out of their crop and be good stewards of the land that we have been blessed with. Factors I considered when choosing my major were things like what kind of career path will be available afterwards, what am I interested in and how will this contribute to larger goals I have.

Leadership:
I am someone who likes to keep themselves busy and get involved. In highschool I have participated in volleyball, cheer, track, basketball, FFA, student council, competition drama and worship team. On the cheer team I was able to be the captain of the varsity squad for the last four years and on the volleyball team I have been the captain for the last two years. I have served twice as class president for the student council and have been the president of my schools FFA chapter for the last three years. Also at school I take a class called living on a mission where we go out into the community to local food banks, thrift stores and nursing homes and volunteer every day. Outside of school I am part of Amalgamated Sugars Youth Grower Program, for this I was awarded grower of the year for the 2025 growing season. 

Essay Question 1:
Farming can be unpredictable, some might even call it a gamble. You can never completely predict the market, weather, resources available or excess costs. I think one of the most challenging issues our country is facing that relates to my community is that commodity prices are depressed and all input costs are rising. This is an issue in my primarily ag-based community and around the country. Depressed commodity prices mean that the market has fallen and is continuing to stay at low levels. When you add increased input on the top of that you are not left with much.  I live in a small rural community that relies on agriculture to provide. This isn’t about making less money and spending more money, it’s about potentially not being able to keep the community running. Nothing is ever certain in agriculture and that is a risk you take when going into an agriculture career but without agriculture we have nothing. This issue affects my community by taking away job opportunities and it affects the country and beyond that, the world by influencing the amount of food that is being produced.   

Essay Question 2:
My family has been members of Valley Wide for many years. We get fertilizer and chemicals from Valley Ag which works to maximize our yields. Fertilizer and chemicals are more important than they seem and it can be a huge contributor to our outcomes at the end of the season. Because we are able to do business with Valley Ag we are able to produce good quality crops and feel as though we have done the most we can to ensure a good product at the end of the season.  Valley Wide has an impact on our lives year round, not just during the growing season. We get all our propane for not just our own home but for our employees homes from Valley Wide. This is what keeps our homes warm during the cold windy days of the winter and what gets our stoves running so that we can enjoy a meal with our families. Food and shelter are crucial in order to live and being a member of Valley Wide Cooperative has contributed to both things in my life as well as our employees lives by putting quality food on the table and providing us with warmth in our homes. I am thankful for our membership with Valley Wide and hope to see it continue for many more years to come.

When asked who are the most influential people in your life, my mind always jumps straight to my parents. Not because they brought me into this world or because they feed me dinner and take me on vacation but because they have taught me some of the most valuable life lessons and shown me how to work hard.  I am blessed to have grown up with two great examples of hard work and dedication. Seeing how my parents worked for everything we have has influenced me to want to work just as hard. Hard work can be shown in many ways and I know that my parents’ influence on me is reflected in how I work. Each year is different from the last, and each day brings forth new challenges. My degree will also help me learn about modern technology and how to use it to my advantage. Technology is constantly advancing and instead of trying to resist these advancements I plan to use them to make my farm more efficient and sustainable. 

Leadership:
I’ve completed many hours of community service through activities such as helping to serve food boxes to members of the community, redecorating the Melba community Christmas tree to bring awareness to an auto immune disorder known as PANS/PANDAS, and Volunteering at the Melba Community Auction. I fulfilled 20+ hours of service while completing my senior project, which consisted of growing and selling sweet corn and donating all proceeds to the Melba Community Auction. I have assisted at a youth softball camp for girl’s 2nd-6th grade. At this camp I helped to lead drills, develop fundamental skills, and to provide encouragement and support. I am also member of the Melba High School Student Council and am currently enrolled in a leadership class. As a member of Student Council, I help plan and organize events, lead initiatives, and most importantly represent our school and students. Other tasks include fundraising, problem solving, and communicating with students, teachers, and administrators. I also had the privilege to be a captain for our 2025-2026 varsity girls’ basketball team. As a captain I led by example both on and off the court by doing things such as communicating with my teammates and coaches, holding myself and my teammates accountable, and being a good representative of my team and our basketball program. 

Essay Question 1:
I think that the most challenging issue that our country faces is how divided we are. The United States is a country full of people who are divided by stubborn opinions and don’t bother to understand others. While other countries envy Americas unity and power, only U.S. citizens know the corruption happening beneath the surface and the obstinate nature of American citizens. This division is creating a belief that everyone needs to be equal in order to create unity but instead it is blurring the lines of uniqueness and individuality. This impacts many aspects of my life such as my opportunities, my responsibilities, and my future. Life is not fair and never should be. From the day we are born we all come from different places and deal with different challenges. Opportunities are not equal, natural talents differ, and effort doesn’t always guarantee success. People are always going to be different from one another and that is one of America’s biggest strengths, however in order to destroy the divide in our country and maintain a sense of uniqueness, people need to make an effort to understand one another. Understanding someone shouldn’t change your opinion nor does it mean you agree with them but understanding them would make America more united and stronger than ever. 

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my parents. They have always been there for me and will always be my biggest supporters. The biggest influence that they have on me is the examples they have set for me. They have been my role models from day one and have taught me so many valuable lessons. They have taught me the value of hard work and how success doesn’t come easy. They’ve also taught me the importance of difficult situations by not shielding me from them. I have learned from them that struggling is a part of life and hardly anything is going to come easily. Their influence pushes me to be a better person and has helped to shape me into who I am today.

Future Plans:
I am going to college to learn how to account and keep books because I want to be able to keep the books for my family’s dairy. I have always loved keeping track of things, math, and agriculture. I found that the perfect way to mix all of it together was to learn how to keep books and return to my family’s dairy to do it their. I have always loved getting to help my mom or dad on the dairy whenever I got the chance, because of this, I know I want to stay tied to the dairy and it is my goal to eventually take part in running it when I am older! 

Awards:
I have held the secretary position for my FFA Chapter for the last three years. Fulfilling this position has taught me a lot of new skills and tied me closer to agriculture. In FFA, I have participated in Livestock Judging, Milk Quality, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Dairy Judging, and Ag Sales. I have achieved both my greenhand and chapter degrees. I recently placed second in my category at the Ag Sales competition, and helped my chapter bring home a banner for placing third as a team. At last years Dairy Judging competition, I was on the scoring team for my chapter and we placed fourth. 

Leadership:
I have been very involved in FFA throughout my high school career. I earned an officer position that has helped me grow as a person. I have played volleyball all four years of high school and served as a team captain for three of those years. Being a team captain has taught me how to encourage my teammates in high stress situations and be a leader they can count on. As a freshman, I stepped out of my comfort zone to play a sport completely new for me, softball. This season of learning required hard work and determination. I ended up loving it and I’m very glad I took the chance. Unfortunately, my school’s softball program didn’t have enough interest to continue on, so that is the only chance I had to play. I have recently been taking a course offered by my school entitled, “Living on Mission.” In this class, we spend 2-4 days out of the week going out into the community and serving. My senior project has also been based around volunteering at the Rising Stars Therapeutic Riding Center. Volunteering my time at these places has taught me to be humble towards other people. 

Essay Question 1:
The most challenging issue facing my hometown as well as the surrounding areas is the lack of water reserves in our state. Many farmers are having to make tough decisions as a result of the water deficiency in our area. Farmers have to cut down on acres they farm which decreases their yields. Most farmers depend on higher yields to make ends meet. This is not only unfortunate, but also frightening for our communities because farmers serve as the backbone of our economy. This is a huge issue that will negatively affect both the people within our communities, and our economy.   

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my parents. Through every up and down, they have been there for me. They have kept me accountable but also encouraged me in tough situations. They have made a positive influence in my life because they have always expected things out of me. Sometimes, kids will take expectations as pressure, but for me, it’s not the same. I know my parents expect things out of me because they believe I am capable of them. Having someone who believes in you will make all the difference in your life. My parents have always believed in me and they tell me everyday. I am so grateful for the significant role my parents have played in my life and for teaching me how to overcome obstacles when I come across them.

My grandparents used to be members of the Valley Wide Cooperative, and that is where my family’s involvement began. My parents have been members of the Valley Wide Cooperative under Giltner Farms and now C7 Farms. Their main activities as members have been purchasing supplies and fuel.

My future goals are to go to Utah State for a year to do my generals then serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This gives me an extra three years to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life. I would want to major in something that will help me pursue a career that I love doing. Weather that means business, finance, engineering, or any other thing that might interest me. 

Awards:
I was involved in sugar beet 4 H for a while before the sugar company did their own program. We would be assigned a research topic that we would research. We would then make a poster board about that project, and present it in front of judges. We would need to fill out our record book. And during the fair, we would pick three beets of similar size and shape and clean them up then take them in to the fair to be judged. 

Leadership:
I have done three years of basketball and four years of both track and cross country. In the state track championships I got 2nd in the 400, 6th in the 200, and 3rd in both the 4×4 and 4×2. I am the seminary council president. It has been a good experience to care for my peers and help them have a better experience in seminary. Last year I was involved with lunch buddies. High school students in the National Honors Society would go over to the elementary during their lunch time and a friend to those who need one. This year for my senior project, I am doing a community concert with my friend. He is singing, and I am playing seven memorized piano songs. It will have the community to come out and enjoy our music. 

Essay Question 1:
One of the most challenging issues that our country faces today is drought. This especially pertains to my community because our community is built on agriculture. Without the needed amount of water, our crops won’t yield as good and farmers are less likely to make a profit.  Near our farm, we have two recharge ponds. This allows the water to stay in our area and go down into the aquifer. Over the years, our farm has had to adapt to the drought and change a few things to try to conserve water. For example, we leave standing stubble or plant cover crops to keep the ground covered and to catch the snow. We then strip till and plant sugar beets straight into last year’s stubble. We don’t till wheat into wheat which really conserves water. We have been more efficient with our watering, trying to maximize the yield while using less water.   

Essay Question 2:
One of the most influential people in my life has been my Grandpa Doug. He and I are both pretty similar. We are both tall, we both ran track, and we both have a stutter. Nobody knows or understands what it is like to have a stutter. My grandpa understands and encourages me to not let it stop me. When he was my age, he would not dare talk in class, and definitely not give a presentation. He was able to get some help with his stutter when he was older and it helped him be more confident. He doesn’t let his stutter stop him anymore. Because of his example, I participate in many things that people without a stutter are nervous to do. I give talks in church, say prayers in seminary, and give presentations for school.  Grandpa Doug got a full ride athletic scholarship, but he only went to one year of college because he was too afraid of needing to speak. In jobs, he was always undervalued because he did not have a college degree. He encourages me to further my education. He has encouraged me to work hard. He sacrificed so much so that I could be living more comfortably today. He had to work really hard to be where he is today. I hope I can represent him well and work just as hard as him.  He has encouraged me to keep running. He loves going to my track meets to watch me run.

We have been a part of Valley Wide Coop for a really long time. My Grandpa, and now my dad and uncles have been involved in Valley Wide. We mostly buy lots of fuel for all the farm equipment and vehicles for the farm. We also buy some fertilizer that helps the farm yield what it needs to.

Future Plans:
My major is dental hygiene because it genuinely combines my passion with my long-term goals. I love the science, the hands-on skills, and the impact preventative care has on people’s health and confidence. In the future, I hope to practice clinically and eventually start a mobile dental hygiene unit to serve rural communities like mine. When choosing a major, I considered passion, stability, flexibility, and the ability to have a meaningful career while still prioritizing family someday. Dental hygiene gives me all of that.

Essay Question 1:
One of the biggest challenges our country faces is access to affordable healthcare, especially in rural communities like mine. In small towns, like Oakley, we don’t always have the same options that bigger cities do. Many families have to drive long distances for specialized care, and when hospitals are short-staffed, it directly affects the people who live here. In places like Burley and the surrounding Mini-Cassia area, healthcare facilities work hard, but they operate with limited resources. When there are national shortages of providers or rising costs, rural communities feel it quickly. For elderly residents, families, and those with ongoing medical needs, consistent local care is incredibly important. Another challenge tied to this is keeping young professionals in small towns. Many graduates leave for larger cities, which makes it harder to maintain strong healthcare systems and local services. If rural communities can’t retain skilled workers, it affects everyone’s quality of life. These challenges don’t just impact statistics, they impact many real people. In small towns, access to healthcare is about making sure the people we know and care about are taken care of.  

Essay Question 2:
The most influential person in my life is my mom. Growing up with a teacher as a parent meant I saw firsthand how much time and effort goes into helping students succeed. I watched her grade papers at the kitchen table, planned lessons late at night, and cared about her students even outside of school hours. It showed me early on that education isn’t something to take lightly. She’s the reason I push myself the way I do. She always encouraged me to take harder classes and not shy away from opportunities, even when they felt overwhelming. When I decided to start college classes early and balance multiple schools at once, she supported me completely. She trusted me to handle it and reminded me that I was capable. It is because of her that I see education as something you invest in. It creates options and independence. Watching her dedicate herself to her students made me want to take ownership of my own future and eventually choose a career where I can serve others too.  

Essay Question 3:
My family has been involved with Valley Wide Cooperative for years. My parents are members, and it has always been one of the main places we rely on for our agricultural needs. Growing up, it was normal for us to stop there for animal feed, fertilizer, seed, or whatever else we needed for the farm. I’ve personally bought my lamb feed there for the lambs I show through FFA. Preparing for show season takes a lot of consistency, and having a dependable place to get quality feed makes a difference. Valley Wide has been part of that process for me every year. It’s also just one of our favorite western supply stores. It’s familiar, local, and run by people who understand the agricultural lifestyle. Valley wide is a huge part of the farming community we’re proud to be in.

Marriage and Family Studies 

Future Plans:
My goal for the future is to be a marriage therapist. I want to be able to counsel couples and provide them with the help and resources they need. My major will help me to reach that goal, because the marriage and family studies program is the start to becoming a marriage therapist. The factors that I have considered with choosing this major is how much money it would cost for me to eventually make it to be a marriage therapist. I’ll need to get a master’s degree which will require additional schooling. If I stop after receiving a bachelors degree, I will have .
job opportunities with various nonprofit organizations.

I have been concert band president, alto section leader for two years, and jazz band president. .

Essay Question 1:
Where I live, agronomics is huge. Not only am I surrounded by many farmers but my father is a third generation farmer. This past year and upcoming years are proving to be more difficult financially than it’s ever been in the past. Many people may not realize how prices of food in stores don’t accurately reflect how much the farmers are paid in comparison. Typically, farmers receive 15 cents for every dollar spent on their product. In total, that really doesn’t equate to much at all. 
Tariffs are another thing that haven’t benefited farmers. The supply cost that is essential for farmers are increasing, which is leading to a higher risk of bankruptcy. In this area especially, I have noticed how farmers are trying to work more strategically in order to keep a living. Even those who aren’t farmers are being affected by these new costs. Other companies aren’t getting as much business due to farmers not having the money to pay for that specific business. 

Essay Question 2:
My mother and sister have been some of the most influential people in my life. My mother demonstrated a lot of things I have looked up to. She was the one who originally got me started on the piano. She has fully supported me as I have developed a variety of musical talents. Especially the days I didn’t feel like practicing the piano or going to clogging practice. She has always been there cheering me on. Her support helped me to eventually love participating in my musical activities. I also would watch her practice the piano and think about how much I would love to get to her level. That was something that made me want to push myself to continue to progress in my skills. Eventually, I was able to reach her level, and then I found myself surpassing her abilities.

Similarly, with clogging, my oldest sister was my role model. Of course, the classes are based on age, so I was never able to be in her class. However, we would work on our dances together, and I would admire her skills a lot. She was willing to help me whenever I needed, and gave me more motivation when I was struggling. 

Essay Question 3:
My dad had been a customer of Valley Wide Agronomics for around 20 years. Valley Wide has been his main supplier for fertilizers and chemicals for the farm. Also, through Valleywide co-op, he has purchased several needed farming supplies and  products.

I am excited about a career in the Aeronautical industry and look forward to earning a Mechanical Engineering degree as well as my private pilot’s license.

I showed sheep in 4-H and won many ribbons in open class produce. Because of my participation in Ag-related classes at Minico, I am a member of FFA. 

Leadership:
I have played sports such as football, baseball, wrestling, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, skiing, snowboarding, golfing, and swim team. I like being part of a team, working towards the same goal. I enjoy hunting and fishing as well as exploring the great area that I live in all year round. I have volunteered many hours for my church, helping those in need, running the weekly live stream service, and even participated in a week-long mission trip to Northern Idaho. I was a member of 4-H and showed sheep as well as many open class produce entries. I am also in the National Honors Society and FFA. I’ve been working full time during the summer for a local construction company and part time during the school year merchandising for a local meat company for the last two years. I am also excited to be working on my private pilot’s license. 

Essay Question 1:
One of the most pressing challenges facing our area is water scarcity and long-term agricultural sustainability. Communities in and around Magic Valley depend heavily on farming and food processing, which rely on irrigation from the Snake River system. However, declining aquifer levels, recurring drought conditions, and changing snowpack patterns have raised concerns about how to balance water use between farmers, cities, and environmental needs. Because agriculture is a cornerstone of our region’s economy and identity, decisions about water management directly affect local jobs, family farms, and the long-term stability of our community.

The most influential people in my life have been my parents. Through their constant support, guidance, and sacrifices, they shaped not only my values but also my character. They taught me the importance of hard work, integrity, and resilience by living those principles every day. Whenever I faced challenges, they encouraged me to stay determined and believe in myself. Their unconditional love gave me confidence, and their advice continues to guide my decisions. Because of them, I strive to be responsible, compassionate, and committed to reaching my goals.

My father is a second-generation farmer where he works for himself growing barley and alfalfa, and he raises some cattle. My grandpa was a cattleman in this community for many years before his retirement.   

Jaxon Astorquia

Kinesiology 

Future Plans:
After high school, I plan to earn a Bachelor’s degree in the study of kinesiology at Boise State University to pursue a career as a physician’s assistant or a physical therapist. Science and biology have always been interests of mine and through this career path I can do something I am interested in while helping others. I decided to do my senior project on marketing management and found out it wasn’t for me. This shifted my focus into the medical field and after some research and experience with physical therapy specifically I have decided that this is what I want to pursue. Through a job such as this, I hope to one day purchase a house and support a family. Family has always been an important part of my life and it has been a dream of mine since I was young to have one of my own in the future. If I decide to pursue a master’s degree later in life I will do that. As you can see, I have been very productive in my high school career and have important goals for the future. 

Awards:
This is my 4th year as a member of the Marsing FFA Chapter.  Throughout the years, I have received multiple awards including: Chapter Creed Speaking Winner, District Creed Speaking Winner, State Creed Speaking participant, Star Greenhand Award, District Ag Sales Team Winner, State Degree Recipient, as well as competed in Potato Evaluation and Entomology with top 5 team finishes.  Outside of competitions, I served as the chapter reporter for 1 year. 

Leadership:
I have accomplished many things as a student. For one, I have involved myself in my community more than I ever have before, especially this past year. My favorite things I did was stocking and unloading food at my local food pantry. This past summer, I along with a few others would come together once a week and unload pallets of food for the pantry. I enjoyed this because I knew I was making a huge impact in the lives of those in my community by helping them get easy access to food if needed. Another experience I had with community service was assisting with the setup of the local slow-pitch softball tournament. This is something I do every year and it’s an event that many community members look forward to. I take pride in helping my community and will continue to do so in the future. Outside of community service, I also participate in various activities both in school and athletics. I am currently the Vice President of the National Honor Society. This is another club that I am honored to be a part of and we also incorporate a lot of community service into that. On the side of athletics, I have participated in Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Track and Field. My favorite of the four sports is football and I believe that to be the sport I am best at. I have been awarded Lineman of the Year twice, been awarded with Academic All-Conference four times, nominated for First and Second Team All-Conference, and elected as 3A Second Team All-State. In addition, I have been awarded Academic All-Conference Honors each season for baseball and also won the Mr. Husky award twice which is given to a player that always keeps a positive attitude in the dugout and is always willing to help out. I was also the only member of the basketball team that was Academic All-Conference this year. Clearly, I am an active student outside of the classroom and have enjoyed doing so throughout my time as a high school student. 

Essay Question 1:
In my opinion, the most pressing issue in our country that impacts my community and small communities in general is the increase of prices. When prices increase, it impacts everybody, especially small towns and businesses such as the ones in close proximity to me. Businesses already struggle as it is in a small town as much of the profit relies on an already small population and travelers passing through; however, when the cost of production increases, prices often increase as well. For example, a local restaurant in my area has recently shut down due to low income. While other factors may play a role in its closing, inflation was the biggest factor. The cost of materials and ingredients slowly rose which meant the prices of menu items had to increase as well to maintain profitability. People in the community loved this restaurant, but it was too costly to support it due to these increasing prices. The business struggled over its last year being open and people wanted to help, yet prices weren’t justifiable to do so. This closing was an upsetting end to a beloved business that was loved by many. Clearly, inflation is an important issue that impacts small communities and businesses everywhere.  

Essay Question 2:
I have many influential people in my life, but the most prominent two are definitely my parents. First, my mom has helped shape me into the person I am today. She has always provided for me and showed me what it means to be a good person. She shows kindness towards everyone and exemplifies patience as she is an elementary school librarian. I am also grateful that she has pushed me to do well in school as this promoted a good work ethic that will continue for the rest of my life. My mom has also been a role model as to what an amazing parent should look like. The same should be said for my dad. My dad is the hardest worker I know. I have never seen him quit on anything or anybody in my eighteen years of life and I am sure it will persist for years to come. He also has taught me the importance of sacrifice. My dad often has to work out of town hours away from his family. He has to sacrifice time with his family in order to provide for us nearly every week. This just makes the moments we have together even more important to me. However, most importantly, my dad has given me the perfect example of what an amazing father and husband should be. For these reasons, my parents are easily the most impactful people in my life. 

Essay Question 3:
My family’s involvement with Valley Wide Cooperative is unmatched. First off, my father is Jake Astorquia and he has been with the company for many years. From what I am told, he has an immense impact on the company and loves working there. My dad may work for the company, but we are also customers of Valley Wide Cooperative. We use lots of propane and our supplier is this company. Along with that, we frequently stop at the Valley Wide stores and purchase items from there as well. Outside of being buyers, my parents attend many events for Valley Wide Cooperative and enjoy doing so. Clearly, my family has been very involved with Valley Wide Cooperative and we are proud to have someone that gets to represent that business.

Essay Question 1:
In my opinion, one of the most challenging issues is unaffordable health care. There are so many factors that go into this, which require people to need more health care, which they cannot afford. Unhealthy foods cost less than healthy foods, leading to a rise in obesity. A rise in obesity may lead to diabetes, required surgrey, or something else. People who can’t afford to get the help they need are most likely going to suffer or pass away. I think that health care accessibility is a huge challenge for people recently. Another major challenge is inflation. The prices of housing, vehicles, food, insurance, etc., just continue to go up and up. Meanwhile, people’s money is not increasing, and they are struggling to pay their bills and provide food on the table.   

Essay Question 2:
The most influential people in my life are my great-grandpa and my mom. My great-grandpa has never given up and continues to do the things he loves at an old age. He never quit when things got hard and always found a way to make things work, and for that, I hope to be like him. I have watched my mom get herself out of her whole and get back on her feet. She has always been there for me, and everyone else. I strive to work as hard as she and be as empathetic.

Essay Question 1:
The current problem that our country faces is a lack of understanding of how a farming community functions and how to keep the art of farming alive. Most companies try to overoptimize things, and when applied to farming, this fails to work. This drives a divide between how farms and farm communities interact with the general populace. It makes things difficult for farmers and the communities who rely on them.  

Essay Question 2:
The most influential person in my life is my father; he helped raise me to be the person I am now and helped set in stone my love for engineering and understanding of agriculture. He taught me how to work hard and taught me most of the skills I have by having me farm with him. I learned about agriculture and how important engineering is to it, and that helped me decide to go into engineering. My goal is to make farming better by helping develop vital systems and maintain current systems.  

Essay Question 3:
My family has been farming for almost 30 years and has been buying things from Valleywide for most of that time. I grew up driving tractors running on fuel bought from the co-op, and we would stop for snacks after changing water. My dad is also on the board and has been for 9 years, serving as the secretary for the last 4. My family has a strong connection to the co-op, and I expect that to continue for years to come.

Future Plans:
This major relates to my future goals because I would like to become a teacher. The factors I will consider when choosing a major are basically how much would this relate to my future job as well as how much I would enjoy it.

Leadership:
I am my senior’s class treasurer. I also have been on the varsity football, basketball, baseball, track, and golf teams. I have been involved within my student body with games and all that. 

Essay Question 1:
In my opinion, the most challenging issue my country faces is that it affects my hometown is drug addiction. It is a very real and scary situation. People become addicted to these kinds of drugs and it feels like their life just goes downhill. Their has been a big push for addiction centers. I have vowed to never do drugs because of the amount of hardcore addictions that it has.   

Essay Question 2:
The most influential person in my life, other than my parents, was my advisory teacher, Mrs. Pope. She has taught me so much throughout all of my years of school. For example, she taught me how to be kind. She taught me about how to be the best version of myself and not to let anybody else change how I think about myself. She is the biggest influence for me for why I would like to become a teacher. I hope that in the future I can influence others as she has influenced me.   

Essay Question 3:
For me it kind of felt like I grew up around Valley Wide. My mom has worked with Valley Wide for as long as I can remember. She started as a cashier and slowly made her way. I got to know so many people through Valley Wide because of my mom. While my mom was still the manger in Gooding I remember when she was short staffed she would get me to come and stock some shelves. From that I learned the stores inside and out. This eventually helped me when I started working with Valley Wide. I started with just being a stocking boy which I got onto very quickly because I had done it. Because of my mom I also got a lot to know so many people like when I would go and sit at events with her.
